Day 1: Arrive Hobart
Welcome to Tasmania! Upon arrival at Hobart Airport, make your own way to your hotel for a two-night stay. Check-in is available after 2pm.
Day 2: Port Arthur, Tasman Peninsula (B)
After breakfast, meet your friendly Tour Director and Bus Captain in the hotel lobby at 8:30am to begin your spectacular journey through Tasmania’s East Coast. Starting with a step into Tasmania’s convict history exploring the Port Arthur Historic Site, taking a cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a fascinating guided walk of the remains of Port Arthur’s infamous convict prison. There will be time for you to wander the site at your leisure. On the drive out from Hobart, admire the coastal scenery that highlights the natural beauty of the Tasman Peninsula, see the amazing natural rock formations of the Blowhole, Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.
Day 3: Wineglass Bay, Freycinet National Park (B)
Explore the stunning beauty of Freycinet National Park, one of Tasmania’s first National Parks. Pink granite mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife and walking trails. Walk as a group to the Wineglass Bay Lookout (or sit down and relax while admiring the beautiful scenery), a medium grade 1.3km uphill walk (700 steps, sturdy footwear required) of around 45 minutes, one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania. Once at the top be rewarded with that world- famous breathtaking view of Wineglass Bay. After several hours at Freycinet National Park re-group ready to begin the trip to one of Australia’s oldest cities – Launceston. Over the next two nights, relax at Tamar Valley Resort (or similar) – a quaint retreat nestled in a Swiss-style village north of Launceston with vast expanses of grassy lakes and beautiful views of Tamar Valley. (Note: today will be an early start – 7:30am departure from hotel and a long day covering a combined distance of 400km).
Day 4: Cradle Mountain, Dove Lake (B, D)
Travel deep into the pristine Tasmanian forest, and experience a remote wilderness of waterfalls, glacial lakes, rainforest and wildlife on this day trip to breathtaking Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Inside the UNESCO World Heritage–listed park, take a couple of easy walks on well constructed paths through the forest and admire views of the craggy peak of Cradle Mountain towering above the tranquil reflective waters of Dove Lake. This afternoon, stop by a local boutique cheese maker to sample some delicious award-winning Tasmanian cheeses. Then enjoy the company of your Tour Director, Bus Captain and fellow travellers this evening at a fun Welcome Dinner.
Day 5: Richmond, kunanyi / Mt Wellington (B)
Enjoy a visit to Richmond, a picture-perfect town that tells the story of an early Australian colonial village. Take a stroll down the pretty nineteenth century streets and see the town’s most photographed landmark, the Richmond Bridge. Next travel by Hobart’s waterfront to the summit of kunanyi / Mt Wellington. Rising 1270 metres above sea level, experience spectacular views over Hobart and southern Tasmania. You’ll have time to visit the observation shelter and take in panoramic views from the lookouts. Return to Hobart for the next two nights. (Note: bring a warm jacket as the temperature on the mountain is around ten degrees cooler than below).
Day 6: Hobart Free Day (B)
Spend the day at leisure or join an optional full day tour of Hobart and Peppermint Bay (at your own expense).
Optional Tour: Hobart Waterfront & Peppermint Bay Lunch Cruise – $150 per person – payable directly to the Tour Director whilst on tour
This full day guided tour takes you on a stroll around Hobart’s historic Constitution Dock, the final destination of the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Then, indulge in a relaxing and beautiful Peppermint Bay Lunch Cruise. This return cruise on-board a catamaran is a great way to experience the city’s harbour, beachside towns and wildlife on route to the Peppermint Bay Hotel. Arriving at Peppermint Bay, take a short stroll to the restaurant to enjoy the chef’s set menu based on seasonal produce from its garden and of course local producers, whilst you soak up the views over the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.
Day 7: Salamanca Market, Depart Hobart (B)

A medium level of fitness is required to fully enjoy this tour. The tour is conducted predominantly at a medium pace with regular breaks on the coach while in transit to destinations, and may involve a couple of a longer travel days to the National Parks. Cradle Mountain consists of relatively short, brisk and flat walks on well-formed tracks. A longer 1.3km ascent to the Wineglass Bay Lookout involves steep steps on sections of the loose gravel track, requiring a good level of fitness (you can choose not to walk the track if too physically demanding). You will typically spend several nights at one location which means less time packing and unpacking. You will be required to move about unassisted, including boarding and alighting vehicles, ascending and descending stairs, walking on uneven or steep terrain, and handling your own luggage. This tour is not suitable for guests requiring mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
Mid December to mid January is historically the best time to view lavender blooms. Viewing may extend to late January or early February in parts of Tasmania. Bloom timings cannot be guaranteed as they are highly seasonal and subject to changing climate conditions.
